I made (sort of) a foil beanie for my Wi-Fi router so I could get a better signal in a back bedroom where I just set-up an old computer with a cheapie Wi-Fi card. To my great surprise, it actually seems to work as advertised.

I'm going to try that one today! Cheaper than buying a repeater!

There are other, more elaborate, designs available using wire mesh or a Pringles can, but those are more labor intensive and the can design is very directional. This one seemed to be the easiest to build, took me about fifteen minutes. Prior to setting it up my back room reception varied between "good" and "very good" but would drop-out altogether every few minutes. With the reflector in place I now get "excellent" to "very good" and no drop-outs, however the speed of the connection occasionally drops below optimum. Still, that is an improvement and I can live with it until I figure our something better like a Wi-Fi card with an antenna which isn't hardwired into the back of the card. I should have spent a little more and gotten one with a coax... live and learn.

Didn't work well for me... Still have 1 bar of reception! Just Great! I'll have to break down and buy a repeater....
